How long does a divorce case take in Bangladesh?

The duration of a divorce case depends on the type of divorce and the cooperation of both parties.

  • Muslim Personal Law (Talaq): Minimum of 90 days after the notice is served to the local Nikah Registrar or City Corporation.

  • Mutual Divorce (Under Family Court Act): Usually 3 to 6 months if both parties agree.

  • Contested Divorce: May take 6 months to over a year, depending on court proceedings.

What is the cost to register land in Bangladesh?

Land registration costs vary depending on the location, land value, and nature of the deed. Typical costs include:

  • Stamp duty: 3-4% of the land value

  • Registration fee: 1.5-2%

  • VAT & other govt. charges: 1-2%

  • Legal/agent fees: Varies (often fixed or negotiable)

What documents are required to apply for bail?

To apply for bail, you will typically need:

  • Certified copy of FIR or case number

  • Arrest warrant (if any)

  • Affidavit in support of the bail petition

Can I register a company as a foreign national or NRB (Non-Resident Bangladeshi)?

Yes. Foreign nationals and NRBs can register companies in Bangladesh through the RJSC (Registrar of Joint Stock Companies). Additional steps may be required, such as:

  • Foreign investment declaration

  • Local office address

  • TIN & VAT registration

What are the grounds for filing a cheque dishonor case?

You can file a cheque dishonor case under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act if:

  • You issued a legal notice within 30 days of receiving the dishonored cheque

  • The issuer fails to pay within 30 days after notice
